Black-capped Chickadee

See the piece of sunflower seed that its feet have clamped to the branch? It presses the seed down into the branch and chips off tiny pieces with its bill and swallow them.

Feeding behavior varies among species. Black-capped Chickadees at this feeder often will grab a single sunflower seed, fly from the feeder to the adjacent tree, lock down the seed between their feet, tearing off pieces and then return to the feeder and repeat the process.
